Free to embed. Paid to run yourself.

Using the hosted counter costs nothing. A license is only for running your own copy of the code.

Questions people ask.

Do I need a license just to put a counter on my README?

No. Embedding images from herocount.kevish.dev is free. The "by kevish.dev" credit is part of every image and has to stay visible.

What does a self-host license give me?

A signed key you set as HEROCOUNT_LICENSE_KEY on your own server. It switches off the 7-day evaluation limit for one deployment. Updates are included for the year.

What happens after the 7-day evaluation?

An unlicensed self-hosted copy stops serving counters and answers with a "license required" notice. The hosted service is not affected.

Can I remove the credit?

Not under the standard terms. Changing the credit or branding is possible only through the commercial plan, in a written license.

Does it count unique visitors?

No. It counts page loads. GitHub hides visitor addresses behind its image proxy, so unique counts are not possible.

How do I pay?

Request a license and I will send you a key. There is no checkout yet. Read the full terms in the license.
